Workshops

Here at Bugs, Bones and Botany, we promote a Nature Connected Curriculum whilst ensuring we are in line with the National Curriculum here in the UK.

We have a series of workshops available, but if there is something you are still looking for, then do get in touch. We can tailor sessions to your needs.

Insect Investigation

Get the bug pots out and head into the great outdoors! Whether it’s the garden, school playground, or a local park, we’ll discover some fantastic bugs together. We’ll explore different types of insects, learn about their vital role in our planet’s ecosystems, and document our findings just like real entomologists.

Mini dig: Discover Weymouths past

Step into the shoes of an archaeologist and uncover the hidden stories beneath our feet! Inspired by discoveries at Weymouth’s historic North Quay, children will take part in their very own mini excavation. Using brushes and tools, they’ll carefully uncover replica artefacts such as pottery, bones, shells, coins, and beads.

As they dig, record, and piece together the finds, children will learn how archaeologists reveal the past — and how everyday objects can tell extraordinary stories about the people who lived before us.

Plant Anatomy 101

Take a closer look inside the world of plants! Children will explore plant cell make-up, discover how plants grow, and even build their own mini greenhouse to watch some “magic beans” sprout.

Case of the Missing Cake

Step into the shoes of a detective! In this playful workshop, children will learn fingerprinting techniques, practice investigative interviewing, and collect vital evidence to crack the case of the missing cake. Along the way, we’ll piece together a skeleton, test our teamwork, and bring the story to life with entertaining role play and some very suspicious characters.

Animal Anatomy 101

Discover what lies beneath the surface! In this workshop, children will investigate skeletons and muscles to learn how animals move, grow, and survive. Hands-on activities bring science to life, with sessions tailored for different ages, linked to curriculum topics, or designed as a fun, interactive experience for curious minds.

Basic First Aid & CPR

In this fun and practical workshop, children will learn the basics of first aid and CPR through hands-on activities and easy-to-follow steps. From knowing how to help with bumps and scrapes to understanding what to do in an emergency, kids will gain the confidence and skills to care for themselves and others — all while feeling like real-life heroes.

Caring for Our Earth

Join us for an engaging, hands-on session all about why our planet is so special — and how we can all help to protect it. Through fun activities, stories, and crafts, children will explore how nature takes care of us, why trees, animals, and oceans are so important, and what small eco-actions we can take every day. From creating pledge leaves for our “Promise Tree” to exciting eco-games, this session inspires children to become real-life Planet Protectors!

Outdoor Cooking

Teaching kids to safely manage fire is more than just a life skill—it’s a lesson in respect, responsibility, and independence.

Fire has always been central to human connection—gathering, cooking, storytelling. Giving kids the chance to engage with it responsibly prepares them not just for emergencies, but for life.

Ancient Crafts and Tools

Step back in time and discover the skills our ancestors used to survive and create. In this hands-on session, children will explore prehistoric crafts such as natural pigment painting, making clay pots, weaving simple patterns, and twisting plant fibres into cordage. Along the way, we’ll discuss how these artefacts survive and what they can teach us about ancient life.

Orienteering Adventure

Grab a map and compass and set off on a mini adventure! Children will learn navigation skills, follow clues, and work together to find hidden markers.

Sessions can be adapted for different ages, linked to curriculum goals, or run as an exciting outdoor party activity — a fun way to build confidence, teamwork, and a love for the great outdoors.

Mindful Nature

Slow down, breathe, and connect with the world around you. In this calming session, children will explore mindfulness through gentle nature walks, creative art activities, and moments of reflection. From making leaf rubbings and nature mandalas to listening deeply to birdsong, each activity encourages calm focus, self-expression, and appreciation for the natural world.

The Countryside Code

Explore the principles of Respect, Protect and Enjoy through fun, hands-on activities. Children will learn how to care for nature and wildlife, take part in litter-picking challenges, and create eye-catching posters to promote the code.
