C1 Archaeology Open Day
What a day! 1692 people came to visit Context Ones dig site in Weymouth today. Much fun was had, so much to see and talk about. Felix may be a new little celebrity in Weymouth! So proud to be a part of this community project. We have had a request to keep out for the pet dog of Barbara Ward, Mick, that would have been buried in the garden of number 5 a little after 1947. How exciting!?

Typically, I didn't take any other photos during the event. It was so busy!

One of the maps stationed around the site. Each letter had some fabulous information for the visitors to the site today. We hope to have another open day at the end of the dig - lets see what the 'big finale' brings!

Ah Felix. Every body has loved hearing about 'Felix' and their potential endeavors during their life. Looking at their bones, they died a mature cat, possibly with a little arthritis in their elbows. Most likely was some fab pest control for those living on the harborside and had a fab diet of rats and probably scraps of fish. Their teeth were in excellent shape - which is more than we can say about our old moggies of today.

A visitor came to find out if we had found a pet dog that belonged to their family member. Barbara Ward would have lived at number 5 with her beloved pet dog, Mick in the 40's. He was buried in their garden when he died. We haven't found him yet, but I know where I will be requesting to dig on my next few days! This photo was taken of Barbara and Mick on Weymouth seafront in 1946/47. It would be amazing to find this pet and we will know who he belonged to. Don't you worry, he will be treated with the love I am sure he had during his lifetime!

Yours truly chatting away! With all the 'glory' on display and plenty to get the kids involved!

Still cant quite get over the crowds of people that came to visit! Absolutely amazing turn out for some of Weymouth's local history. Either that or it was just for the bacon butties and ice cream!?
